Denim on Denim

{Ecote via Urban Outfitters jean jacket, Madewell shirt, Madewell jeans, Sam Edelman boots, Michael Kors watch, Madewell bangle, J. Crew cocktail ring, gifted pearls}
The weather finally decided it's not summer yet, and gray skies have ensued. On the bright side, I can pull out those warmer clothes I haven't quite gotten tired of yet.

This is THE softest denim jacket I've ever encountered. It feels like velvet, and the cinched waist makes it a little more feminine than the typical jean jacket. I like pairing it with dark jeans; though I used to avoid denim-on-denim at all costs, I've come to love the look of the contrasting blues. Speaking of color, it turns out mustard and navy go perfectly together...how convenient that they are my two most favorite hues.

I bought this shirt for the chain-link accent on the neck. I absolutely love it--it's like a built in necklace. The toughness of the chain balances out the preppy stripes in such an awesome, quirky way.

These are, hands down, my go-to boots. My qualifications for a great pair of flat boots are the following: discreet heel, adequately wide calf opening to ensure ample jeans-tucking room, quality leather, and a touch of flair. I love mine because of the military-ish buttons up the back, and the fact that the heel and toe incorporate a black finish so that I can literally wear them with anything. Versatility is everything (especially on a college budget).

Street Style: Fashion Week

With fashion week coming to a close, it would be regrettable not to share with you the street style that had me drooling this week.

Queen of Hearts

{Urban Outfitters dress, Maje leather jacket, Madewell tights, Madewell booties, Dogeared wishbone necklace, vintage double strand necklace via Melrose Trading Post flea market, Urban Outfitters double wrap watch, David Yurman ring, J. Crew cocktail ring, Ray Ban aviators}
What better time to wear a red dress covered in hearts than Valentine's Day? I had way too much fun dressing in the most literal way for the day of love.

I'm obsessed with the detailing on this dress: the two different layers of fabric (dress + vest overlay), the different sizes of hearts, and the shiny red buttons.

These booties were probably the most worn item in my closet for winter. Can you tell? I need a shoe shine!

I decided to layer on my motorcycle jacket to even out the super-cutesy vibe of the dress. The result? My boyfriend referred to me as his "badass valentine." Mission accomplished.

Be Mine?

I have a confession: I am slightly obsessed with wedding dresses. I've been making a conscious effort to keep this fixation hidden, because once I start talking weddings I cannot be stopped.

But it is Valentine's Day. This gives me a perfect excuse to bring up all things romantic.

David's Bridal--probably not your dream wedding dress store--has teamed up with queen of bridal chic Vera Wang to bring you White by Vera Wang, a line of exquisite (and affordable) gowns.

Gorgeously crafted, meticulously detailed, and undeniably feminine. It's hard to believe these gowns range from a mere $600-$1400.

Here's hoping your day is filled with love.

I Die

Ever since I found out that Rachel Zoe was releasing with her own collection, I've been anxious to see what the Queen of Stylists would come up with. Well, the full lookbook has just been released, and for the most part, I highly approve. It's no surprise that Zoe, ever the boho-glam girl, included lots of furs in her collection, but I'm also loving her tailored, uber polished YSL-inspired tuxes.

Happy weekend everyone!

In The Mix

{Piko 1988 sweater via Bejong and Deheg, Adam Lippes via Neiman Marcus skirt, Anthropologie shoes, Urban Outfitters watch, random earrings, J. Crew cocktail ring}
I had such fun putting this outfit together (wow, how nerdy did I just sound?), because I had been dying to wear the sweater and skirt, but had never thought to put them together. Then I tried it on a whim, and it worked!

After searching everywhere for a cropped, heavy-knit sweater all winter long to no avail, I thought I had missed out on my chance. Then fate stepped in: I happened to pass by a random store's sidewalk sale the other day, and boom! It was love at first sight. The best part? This beauty was on sale for $10.  I've been playing with the skirt lately, trying to find something unexpected to pair with it, and this was the perfect fit. I was going for a modernized Man Men feel.

I've had these shoes for a while now, and though I rarely wear them, I absolutely love them. The stacked, thick heel, the t-strap, and the color blocking make for such a fun, retro-inspired shoe. They're also surprisingly versatile; I've worn them to interviews and out on the town, and the pop of color always gives my outfit some extra pizzaz. The t-strap shoe is one of my favorite styles--I'm on the hunt for more! On that note, I would give my left arm for these.

What I loved about this outfit was the mash-up of textures--the way the chunky knit of the sweater mixed with the tweed and the leather waistband of the skirt (coolest detailing ever).

knit + leather + tweed = texture heaven

Two Things

1. This. Dress.
{image via Karla's Closet}
I can't even begin to explain how in love with this dress I am. The neckline, the full skirt, the subtle bows on the shoulders, the fitted bodice, the prarie-blue pattern! It's a vintage find, naturally. Matched with a mustard belt, this is a dream look for me. Even more motivation (as if I needed it) to make at trip to the flea market this weekend.
