Took these photos while out on a brunch adventure last Sunday. I finally made the journey to Gjelina, and I'm so glad I did. The food was fantastic, and so was the people-watching. A weekend brunch is one of my favorite occasions to get a little glamorous--with nothing on the agenda besides a decadent feast, it just feels right.

Pop Art Pants

I wore this outfit on Sunday to catch the last day of an exhibit I had been waiting months to see at the Annenberg Space for Photography, entitled Who Shot Rock & Roll. We literally squeaked in right before the closing of the exhibit, in its last two hours-- and I'm so glad we made it. The exhibit was a stunning collection of some of the most iconic and emotive photos of musicians and bands I've ever seen. 

These pants prove that it's entirely possible to make an outfit high impact with low effort. I love their pop art appeal, and I think they look best with pared-down tops like tees and denim.

Denim Vest

Took these photos after a lunch trip to Philippe's French Dip in downtown L.A. If you've never been, you are missing out. It's one of the city's oldest restaurants, and is definitely one my favorite Los Angeles institutions.

This denim vest is the ideal layering piece for the ridiculously hot temperatures in L.A. (despite the fact that it's officially fall). I spent all summer layering it over breezy dresses and tops--I love the tough, tomboy vibe it lends to an otherwise girly outfit. When the temperatures finally do drop, I plan to pair it with long-sleeved tees and boots.

West Side Story

Wearing what is probably my favorite vintage find ever, this 1940's minidress. For some reason, the print and silhouette completely remind me of the Puerto Rican vibe of West Side Story.

I'm currently working my way through one of my summer resolutions--to try 10 new Los Angeles restaurants. On this particular evening, we dined at #3, La Loteria Mexican Grill. So far we've also tried out Cha Cha Chicken (Venice)--the best Carribean food ever--and The Belmont (West Hollywood) whose Mint Teajito is the best drink I've ever had. All three places are must-visits! 

My weekend, besides trying out two new restaurants, consisted of taking the leap from my blackberry to an iphone (the verdict: I'm obsessed), shopping with my dad for some cool new duds on father's day, taking some much-needed naps, and seeing Beginners, which I loved.

Date Night

Last night my boyfriend and I took it upon ourselves to strike out of our comfort zones and try a new restaurant in Los Angeles. Sometimes it's hard for us to break away from our favorites (Umami Burger, anyone?), but when we do, it's always a good thing.

After dinner at House Cafe, we went down the street to Milk on Beverly for dessert.

In the spirit of trying new things, my outfit consisted of a few recent purchases as well as pieces I hadn't gotten the chance to wear before.

I love putting looks together that create a unified concept. I think last night's was casual romance, with the emphasis on casual. I used the the relaxed fit of the boyfriend jeans and the sharp lines of the boy-blazer to mitigate the sweetness of the satin shoes, lace top, and girly makeup/hair.
