Shades of Blue

{J.Crew sweater, vintage dress worn as skirt (similar), Coach boots}

I recently picked up these booties, and I have to say, I'm very in love with them. I adore the classic Chelsea boot shape modernized by the cobalt paneling. Inspired by that vibrant hue, I paired the boots with a deep blue dress (worn as a skirt) and one of my favorite navy sweaters.

Colorful Prep

{AG jeans via Anthropologie, Madewell tee (similar), J.Crew blazer, Coach bag, Madewell loafers (similar)}

Around the time of year when it gets cool enough to wear layers, I find myself drawn to preppier, classic looks. Case in point: this outfit combines red jeans, stripes, and a blazer. During the fall and winter, I love to combat dreary days with colorful pieces.

Sunday Brunch

{Madewell sweater, Madewell skirt, Madewell boots, Madewell sunglasses, J.Crew necklace, Trina Turk bag}

Took these photos while out on a brunch adventure last Sunday. I finally made the journey to Gjelina, and I'm so glad I did. The food was fantastic, and so was the people-watching. A weekend brunch is one of my favorite occasions to get a little glamorous--with nothing on the agenda besides a decadent feast, it just feels right.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Los Angeles Moments

A few shots that illustrate my ongoing love affair with Los Angeles...
{The scene inside Mohawk General Store, a fantastic shop in the heart of Silverlake. Don't you wish Breathless was always playing in the background of daily life?}

{Crushing hard on round sunglasses.}

{Really wish I needed these.}

{Useful reminder.}

{How much happier we would probably all be if all our buildings looked like this...}

{Venice, CA}

{One of my favorite sandwich shops in the city. If you ever stop by, don't miss the donuts either.}

{Beach day in November.}

{One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.}

Have a lovely weekend!

First Days of Fall

Here in Los Angeles, temperatures are finally starting to drop. (And by drop, I mean that lows are nearing the 60s.) I can finally wear more than one layer and not feel like I'm going to melt.

I love the chance to play with Americana-inspired colors, so I paired this poppy red blazer with my wear-anywhere chambray dress for class the other day. I'll be honest, I was looking for a fun way to wear my new favorite shoes. These beauties mix so many of my favorite things: a tomboy loafer, tassels, a splash of red, and classic camel. The best part? They just went on sale.

We'll see if the fall temperatures are here to stay...it's supposed to be back in the high 80s by the weekend.

Pop Art Pants

{J.Crew pants (similar), J.Crew denim vest, J.Crew necklace, Madewell tee, Madewell loafers, Coach Classics bag}

I wore this outfit on Sunday to catch the last day of an exhibit I had been waiting months to see at the Annenberg Space for Photography, entitled Who Shot Rock & Roll. We literally squeaked in right before the closing of the exhibit, in its last two hours-- and I'm so glad we made it. The exhibit was a stunning collection of some of the most iconic and emotive photos of musicians and bands I've ever seen.

These pants prove that it's entirely possible to make an outfit high impact with low effort. I love their pop art appeal, and I think they look best with pared-down tops like tees and denim.

Knits and Jewels

{LF top, Zara skirt, necklace from Istanbul, Dolce Vita wedges, Claire Vivier clutch}

I wore this outfit out to dinner  the other evening. I got dressed with the sole intention to be as comfortable as possible, and this is what resulted: a pairing of knits. The colors and silhouettes complement each other nicely, and I topped the look off with what may be my favorite necklace ever. I picked up this beauty in Istanbul while shopping in the Grand Bazaar, and it is one of the most treasured pieces I own.

Lucky for me, tassel necklaces are everywhere right now, and I'm definitely considering adding one of these to my collection...

Olive Dress

{dress via Jane boutique, Dolce Vita shoes (on sale), Madewell necklace, Madewell sunglasses (similar), Coach legacy bag}

I worse this dress out exploring in Silverlake on Sunday afternoon. I've been living in it ever since I picked it up at a local boutique about a month ago. I love its simple, flattering silhouette, and the beautiful braided is just so fun. The weather has been absolutely perfect recently, and I'm relishing the last few days I'll be able to wear this dress without a jacket.

Sidenote: these wedges may be the most comfortable heels I've ever worn. I've even been opting for them over my usual weekend sandals. They're on sale right now, and I highly recommend them.

Style Notes: what I learned from fashion month.

As much as I love seeing the new collections shown during fashion month, I'm always just as inspired by the style photographed outside the shows. Below are my favorite looks from the industry's most stylish people, and notes on how I plan to recreate them.

julia sarr-jamois, wonderland magazine
1. Florals are always chic--even during the fall.

tiffany hsu, buyer at lane crawford
2. Layer a fitted, printed sweater over a peplum dress for a genius mix of sexy and cozy.

joanna hillman, senior market editor, harper's bazaar
3. Wear a gorgeous coat over a simple sheath of the same length. Add kick-ass shoes.

catherine-anne frey, the kooples
4. Play with androgynous looks: tuxedo jackets, shirts buttoned to the neck, menswear-inspired shoes, and sweatshirts + ladylike jackets. Added points for gold touches and ornate details.

shala monroque, fashion consultant
 5. Mix up proportions by pairing a wispy maxi skirt and a chunky knit. Perfect for Los Angeles fall weather.

emmanuelle alt, french vogue
6. Even in the most fashionable of occasions, a blazer plus a white tee goes a long way.

New Favorite Skirt

{vintage skirt from Shareen's, tank via Jane boutique, J.Crew bracelet, Flea Market Girl via Melrose Trading Post earrings}

I found this skirt during my last visit to Shareen's. It was one of those vintage finds that you feel is just destined to end up in your hands. The floral print, the navy hue, the high waist, the perfectly flared silhouette, and that delightful, teensy belt--this skirt is just too good to be true. Until this purchase, the term "cut on the bias" held a special place in my mind reserved for only the most awkward of my preteen clothing. But now... I'm a believer.
