Catching Up

After being absent from the blog world for almost two weeks, I'm back! This morning when I scanned my usual fashion reads, I was overwhelmed by all the new fall campaigns I encountered. Whenever I'm lacking inspiration with my own personal style (or, in this case, when I haven't even had time to get dressed with any semblance of style for a couple of weeks), one of my go-to ways to get inspired is to check out the newest lookbooks from my favorite brands. Here are a few looks that have me seriously excited for fall.

one and two- j. crew
three- h&m
four- zara
So happy to be back to blogging! Hopefully I can remember how to dress myself and get a couple of outfit posts up soon!

Guest Post: Alison from Long Distance Loving

Hi there! My name is {av} and I'm the author of {long distance loving}! To say I am thrilled Katherine asked me to post while she is away is definitely an understatement. Her outfits are always impeccably styled {and I envy her life on the sunny West Coast, while I spend winters freezing in New England!}. She's a girl in the know--and having the opportunity to appear on her blog is an honor!

Playing to her polished style, I pulled together this little get-up. I overlooked budget and simply focused on the fashion. This idea is the root of Friday's Fancies--a weekly link-up I created to help bloggers focus on the clothes rather than their budgets. I hope you enjoy this look as much as I do...

1) Playing up my love of '50s and '60s fashion, this Oscar de la Renta Belted Wool-Crepe Dress fulfilled the vision I had for Katherine. The collar is stunning and the cut is perfection. I would expect nothing less from Oscar.
2) To add some spunk, I chose these Marco Bicego 18K Gold Cluster Link Earrings. This gorgeous pair of earrings would work splendidly today and in fifty years.
3) Karen Walker knocks it out of the park with these Deep Freeze Sunglasses. I adore the bold frames and the tortoiseshell finish. They would most certainly add that extra dose of polish.
4) This Kate Spade Bixby Bag has been on my list since it first appeared on their website. Beyond its clear sensibilities, the clean lines and its timeless feel made it an obvious choice for this ensemble.
5) I am always a sucker for a great pair of nude pumps and these B Brian Atwood Frederique Pumps meet all my requirements. I just cannot get enough of the rounded toe and the slight platform. swoon!
6) I loved this Kenneth Jay Lane Printed Cuff from the moment I first saw it. It definitely amps up this outfit and gives it that perfect finishing touch.

Many thanks to Katherine for inviting me here today! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend...
and that I will be seeing you dream along with me every Friday! xoxo {av}

Guest Post: Sara Jane from Shep

I'm Sara Jane and I pen a blog called Shep. I am so excited to have the opportunity to guest blog for Katherine while she's getting ready for the semester to start. Get Dressed is one of my favorite style blogs and I always love Katherine's style!

Looking forward to fall I've been more than inspired by--you guessed it--leopard print. I'm not nearly brave enough wear the print on my person, but I certainly don't mind it on my feet or around my waist! Here we have Filipa Fino, accessories editor at Vogue, wearing some Charlotte Olympia booties that I would just about die for. Here's some ideas on how you can get the look...

Guest Post: Deanna from Mellow Fever

I'm so excited to be blogging for Katherine! Just to introduce myself, I'm a newly-minted fashion and beauty assistant at MORE magazine and write for my own style blog, Mellow Fever. As a recent college grad, I had to transition my wardrobe from class-ready to magazine-worthy. And, now that we're at the tail end of summer, I have to take my work outfits and get them ready for crisp fall weather without (completely) breaking the bank. Here's how:
You need a little depth with fall style—a pretty dress and pair of sandals alone aren't enough. A fluttery sundress gets a second chance with a dark blazer. The wedges ground the look so that it's not too frou-frou feminine, and a heavy embellished necklace works double-time to play off the brocade of the dress and add a retro feel to the entire ensemble. By including menswear touches and quirky details, the sundress can take you right through October (depending on the temperature, of course).
Colored denim isn't everyone's idea of office-appropriate, but, depending on where you work, you can get away with it if you style it right. Give some fresh air to cobalt capris with some dressy touches: a silk tee, classic (but fun!) ballet flats, and a smart silver watch. How's that going to hold up to cooler temperatures, though? Don't worry—a feminine bow-tied cardigan in dark grey provides warmth and gives it a serious edge. Plus, pairing slate and cobalt is a cheeky twist on the usual taboo of mixing black and navy.
Thanks so much for having me, Katherine!

Guest Post: Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage

Hi, Get Dressed readers! Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage here. I'm so excited that Katherine asked me to guest post for her - I think she's absolutely adorable and I've saved quite a few of her outfits to my outfits inspiration folder (like this one!). I thought I'd share one of my typical causal summer outfits with you. As my blog name might suggest, I have a fascination with vintage clothing and tend to wear mostly vintage. This outfit has some of my favorite vintage pieces in it; the skirt is so easy to mix and match with other items in my closet, and I love the embroidery on the blouse. Besides clothing, I also collect vintage sunglasses - this was one of the first pairs to start off my collection!

Do you have a go-to summer outfit, or any favorite vintage pieces in your closet?

Fall Style Obsession: Button Downs

Clearly, I have been obsessed with button downs as of late. I just love how crisp and polished they are, whether they're styled under blazers, with tuxedo jackets, layered with sweaters, or tucked into skirts. Button downs are a seriously classic item, and I am itching to stock up for fall. Here are a few I'm coveting:
1. classic black and white, Equipment, $210
2. chic stripes, Equipment, $190
3. nautical, Equipment, $220
4. fiery red, J. Crew, $98
5. classic white, J. Crew, $49.50 (on sale!)
As you can see, I am lusting over everything Equipment- I want it all!
I can't believe this is my first post in over a week! Sorry for being a bad blogger, things have been a tad crazy around here. On that note, I am SO excited about the guest bloggers I have lined up for next week! I just know you'll love them as much as I do.

Casual Suiting

{J. Crew linen pants, J. Crew factory top, Zara blazer, Nine West heels, Ralph Lauren belt, vintage necklace, F21 studs, Target sunglasses}
I wanted to make these linen pants office-appropriate, so I added a blazer and some low heels, and voila! A super-comfy work outfit was born.

Yesterday was my last day of my internship, and I can't believe it's over! The summer just flew by.

Obsessed with these cat-eye sunglasses I picked up at Target the other day. Aren't cheap thrills the best?

I move into my sorority today! Things are about to get very, very busy.

The Backpack Report

With school starting in less than two weeks, I've got back-to-school shopping on the brain. And yes, while that does include my ultimate guilty pleasure--new school supplies--I've also got fall style on my mind. One trend that is absolutely major this year is the backpack. And it's not just for kids anymore.

Allow me to introduce you, if you haven't already met...
This, my friends, is the ultimate luxury, the infamous $39,000 handbag from the Olsen twins' The Row (a brand that has been a major obsession for me as of late). Yes, this backpack is one of the most lust-worthy items I've seen in a long while. No, it is not something I will ever purchase in this lifetime. Why? Backpacks are meant to be practical, durable, and at least moderately affordable. My backpack of choice throughout high school was my trusty L.L. Bean (monogrammed, of course).

Here's a roundup of some of my favorite backpacks that will have you heading to class (or really, anywhere) in style:
one- Brandy & Melville, $60
two- Poketo, $58
three- Herschel Supply Co., $59
four- Urban Outfitters, $59
five- Marc by Marc Jacobs, $228
six- Nastygal, $58
And don't even get me started on tote bags. Those might deserve their own post, too. Stay tuned for more back-to-school style!

Coming Up Roses

Disclaimer: This is an admittedly lame post.
However, I just had to show you this vintage dress that I found over the weekend at Shareen's. I always go into that store telling myself I'm just going to "look," and I can never quite leave without something. In this case, my excuse (a.k.a. the delusion I told myself) was that my mom was in town and I had to show her my beloved favorite vintage store. But when we came upon this dress, I couldn't live without it.
Firstly, it's my favorite '50's silhouette- fitted in the bodice, with a demure neckline, and pleated from the waist. Secondly, the print- I'm obsessed with those roses.
This is my attempt to be Betty Draper (and/or Charlotte York). Now the question is, where will I wear it?

In other news, this week begins just about the craziest three-wek span ever. With my internship ending, moving into school, and other commitments, my life is packed for the next little while! Apologies in advance if my dear little blog here gets a little bit behind as a result.

In the meantime, here are a couple other ways I get my social media on:

Inspiration Board: First Signs of Fall

{clockwise from top left via: 1 (unknown), 2 (unknown), 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.most of the images seen here can also be found across my Pinterest boards.}
Even though we are technically in the dead of summer, with school starting in just a couple of weeks all I've been thinking about lately is fall fashion. I'm getting so excited to wear deep reds, the perfect trench coat, peter pan collars, hints of leopard, cropped sweaters, structured bags, wooly knits, black and white stripes, classic loafers, trousers with blazers, and crisp button-downs.
The big picture: I'm craving classic, preppy style injected with modern, quirky touches.
What are you most excited for about fall fashion?

Happy Friday, everyone.

Sensing A Pattern

{Urban Outfitters top and watch, J. Crew skirt and sandals}
I realized in the car on my way to work yesterday that my style this summer has consisted solely of stripes, pleats, and florals. (One can get a lot of thinking done about all sorts of inane things while sitting in traffic in this city.) This outfit is no exception- in fact, it manages to pair two different florals together.

We're halfway done with the week! Friday, please come sooner.

P.S. I need hair advice! I'm kind of addicted to dying my hair, but have been very successful at resisting the temptation for many months now. Thankfully, my highlights have grown out in a somewhat-acceptable fashion, since ombre hair color is in. But I'm very tempted at the moment to go way blonde. What are your thoughts? What are your fall hair color plans?
